Roostly is a flock and egg tracking app for backyard chicken keepers. We take your privacy seriously and keep things simple.

What we collect

• Account information: your email address and a display name you choose.
• Flock data: hen names, breeds, egg logs, notes, and issue tags you enter.
• Device push token: if you enable notifications, we store a token to send them to your device.
• Location (optional, typed only): if you turn on the "Light & Laying" feature, you type in a city or ZIP code — we never read your device's GPS or precise location. We store the place name you picked and its coordinates rounded to about 11km (roughly 1 decimal place), which is enough to compute local day length and nothing more precise than that. Your typed search text is sent to Open-Meteo and, for some U.S. ZIP codes, Zippopotam.us to look up those coordinates — that's the only data those services ever see from Roostly, and neither requires an account or API key. You can change or clear this at any time in Flock settings.
• Supplemental light settings (optional): if you use a lamp or timer on your coop, the mode, hours, and date range you set.

What we do not collect

• We never access your device's GPS or precise location — location is only ever what you type in yourself, and only if you choose to use the optional Light & Laying feature.
• We do not track your activity across other apps or websites.
• We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or third parties.
• We do not use your data for any purpose other than making the app work for you.

How your data is stored

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (supabase.com), a cloud database platform. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Each flock's data is only accessible to members of that flock.

Local-only mode

If you use Roostly in local-only mode (no account), all data stays on your device in your browser's local storage. We never see or store it.

Push notifications

If you enable notifications, we store a device token on our servers solely to deliver egg-log updates from your flock members to your device. You can turn notifications off at any time in the app, which removes your token from our servers.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Flock tab → Delete my account). This permanently removes your account, profile, and all data associated with you. If you are the last member of a flock, the flock and all its data is deleted too.

Children

Roostly is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
